Pardis Sabeti

Computational biologist, medical & evolutionary Geneticist

Groundbreaking discoveries…

Dr. Sabeti is a biologist, medical and evolutionary geneticist with expertise developing algorithms to detect genetic signatures of adaption in humans.

When Ebola broke out in 2014, Pardis led a team to work on sequencing the virus's genome, learning how it mutated and spread. She immediately released her research online, so scientists around the world could share discoveries and join in the urgent fight.

Education in Excellence…

Pardis studied biology at MIT where she was class president and a varsity tennis player.

For her doctorate in Evolutionary Genetics, she attended University of Oxford
as a Rhodes Scholar.

Pardis graduated summa cum laude with a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) at
Harvard Medical School,
being the third woman to receive this honor!

Enlightening Others…

Pardis is a Professor at the Center for Systems Biology and Department of Organismic and Evolutionary Biology at Harvard University as well as the Department of Immunology and Infectious Disease at the Harvard School of Public Health.

Conquering the world...

Pardis has been featured in TIME Magazine, the New York Times,
The Boston Globe, The New Yorker, National Geographic and more. She's also given a TED Talk regarding her
world-changing efforts.

In her own words...

"My motto is to 'keep on keeping on' – to fight for equality, to persevere in the face of adversity, to challenge the status quo, to advocate for what is just and right. I am touched each and every day as I hear from young women so passionate about pursuing their goals!"

more about me...

i chose my field of study because...
I have always been fascinated by the arms race between pathogens and human defense mechanisms against infectious disease. The dynamic relationship between microbes and our ability to fight them off is extraordinarily intriguing, fast-moving, and globally rewarding.
my proudest career moment...
Working with my team to sequence the Ebola virus during the most recent outbreak was an incredibly challenging experience, but I am deeply proud of my team's accomplishments to that end.
the world needs more...
Love. During these turbulent times, I wholeheartedly believe that the world needs more love.
my hobbies include...
Singing and playing bass in the indie rock band Thousand Days.
