Caroline Shaw

Caroline Shaw

musician,
youngest winner ever of the Pulitzer Prize for Music

How it all began...

Caroline was born in Greenville, NC and began playing the violin when she was just 2 years old. Her mother was her first teacher. She began writing music when she was 10 years old… but didn’t start formally singing until college.

Education in Excellence…

Caroline received her Bachelor of Music from Rice University, her master's degree (violin) from Yale and is currently in the PhD program in composition at Princeton.

Outstanding Female Artist...

Caroline is one of only a handful of female artists to have earned a Pulitzer in music. She is the youngest composer to have won the award since its inception in 1943.

Award-Winning Musician based in NYC...

Caroline performs as a violin soloist, chamber musician, and as a vocalist in the Grammy-winning ensemble Roomful of Teeth.

In her own words...
